Pool Session

The sessions are for members only and cost £5.00, this includes any equipment used.
Most people tend to wear board shorts and T Shirts in the pool, if you have
a nose clip this can help if you are practicing capsize and rolling.
Please note the following:
- ONLY boats kept at the pool can be used. It is not longer possible to bring your own boats.

There are strict new rules concerning pool hygene - the current rules are here.

The pool is not huge and so we try to keep the number of active boats in the pool down to about 8 at a time

We encourage everyone to buddy up with someone and to swap around regularly (every 20 – 30 minutes) so that everyone gets a fair turn on the water. We do not enforce this at the moment, but please be aware of others and that we need to share the available resources.

No ‘seal launching’ (sliding in off the side). This is fun, but it also damages the tiles and the handrails at the pool. Please do not do this.

Generally coastal paddles - potentially some slightly choppy seas, wind below force 4, tide approx 2 knots max. Plenty of opportunity for landing and resting. You are not required to be able to roll orself-rescue. These trips will not involve open crossings. It will be specified if any previous experience is required.

More testing/advanced conditions or longer paddles where paddle fitness is important. Potentially some choppy seas, wind up to force 4, tide approx 2 knots max. Longer gaps between landing opportunities (more committing paddles) with the potential for more difficult landings and some moderate surf. Most trips to the Isle of Wight will be at this level or higher.
For Intermediate and Advanced Trips partipants will be known to the leader from previous trips.

The general plan is to meet at Buckler's Hard and paddle up or down river depending on the weather / tide etc. The default location is Bucklers Hard at 0930.Whoever turns up decides on an activity between themselves. Usually morning only.They are not official led club trips,members help one another but each paddler is responsible for themselves for safety and logistics. Members should ask a committee member about the access arrangements for Buckler's Hard. Paddlers should have a minimum of a BCU 1 star award or equivalent. |
